               Anomalies associated with MULLERIAN DUCT

  • MULLERIAN AGENESIS:   various reproductive structures like fallopian tubes ,uterus ,cervix and upper 2/3rd of vagina 👉 not formed.
  • lower 1/3rd of vagina 👉formed by urinogenital sinus👉leading to formation of blind pouch of vagina.👇

  • Ovaries are formed because of presence of genital ridge.
  • secondary sexual characters also are developed👉because of normal pituitary functioning.
  • pituitary👉FSH and LH👉act upon ovaries👉release hormones👉estrogen and progesterone 👉normal secondary sexual characters.

MAYER ROKITANSKY -KUSTER-HAUSER SYNDROME

  1. Mullerian agenesis +renal anomaly +skeletal anomaly👉MRKH syndrome.
  2. in MRKH ,genotype is normal female genotype.
  • symptoms : Amenorrhea,pain during sexual discourse
  • treatment:surrogacy and vaginoplasty.

  1. Banana shaped 
  2. one Mullerian duct forms the complete structure.
  3. what happens to other Mullerian duct?
  • either does not form any structure OR forms non-communicating horn
  • Non Communicating horn :FUNCTIONAL AND NON FUNCTIONAL
  • FUNCTIONAL :after puberty and during periods 👉growth of endometrium👉blood and endometrial lining deposited inside👉very painful during periods
  • NON FUNCTIONAL :no endometrial growth
  • Pregnancy👉susceptible to miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies

   heart shaped uterus  
  1. incomplete fusion of MULLERIAN DUCTS.
  2. pregnancy👉baby in transverse or breach position.
  3. only caesarean can be done and not the normal delivery.
  4. distance between two horns  ≥  4cm
  5. angle between two horns  ≥  60 degrees
                            UTERUS DIDELPHYS                                     
  • two Mullerian ducts do not fuse
  • each Mullerian duct forms its own complete reproductive structure.
  • two types :UNICOLLIS and  BICOLLIS 
  • UNICOLLIS :both the reproductive structures have common vaginal opening .Remember : two uterus 👉 not fused.
  • BICOLLIS : each reproductive system has its own vagina
